Nature Discovery Day - Saturday 30 July 2011

Bird Walk

The hour's stroll, with many stops to look at birds in flight and perched conveniently on dead trees and lamp posts, produced at least 20 species. They are, in order:

Housemartin, Swallow, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Greenfinch, Feral Pigeon, Woodpigeon, Crow, Magpie, House Sparrow, Blue Tit, Sparrowhawk, Jackdaw, Blackbird, Moorhen, Chiffchaff (or Willow Warbler), Mallard, Robin, Collared Dove, Great Tit, Buzzard.

Also reported during the afternoon were:

Swift, Kingfisher, Blackcap, a Woodpecker and probably Herring Gull and Stockdove.

On my way back I thought I heard a Sedge Warbler near the pond.

Dr. John Austin

Our many thanks to John for another informative walk. We will add the spottings to our Spotted database soon.
